KLOMP
(Knowledge from Landing and Orbiting the Moon Program)
Dutch boots on the moon

I created KLOMP as a replacement for the old and outdated Keuzecollege project offered by the Kapteyn Institute and SRON at the University of Groningen. This project is for VWO high school students in klas 4 with O&O classes associated with Stichting Technasium.

Students start with an introduction to the project and some background information about the moon and it's environment. (2024 Presentation here)

The groups all choose their science cases (with no more than 2 groups per science case.. ties broken with rock paper scissors) and start brainstorming.

After lunch, we head to the computer cluster to start researching and designing.

The specifics of the project (in 2024) can be found here.

I encourage the groups to use creative methods and materials with the main restriction that I will need to see something to grade it at the end of the project.

On the assessment day, we have a presentation fair where all of the students can present and peer review each other's projects as well as getting an official assessment for their Keuzecollege grade.

Afterward we are allowed to tour the SRON instrumentation labs and see how the real engineers work!
